Meetings

Duties of the Stillwater Town Board

The Stillwater Town Board is the legislative body of Town Government. It is the only branch of Town Government which can pass laws.

Under the leadership of Chief Fiscal Office, Supervisor Shawn P. Connelly, this board oversees the budget for the Town of Stillwater and is responsible for the fiscal polices of Town Government.

This Town Board, in cooperation with the Town Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals, oversees and administers the Town of Stillwater Comprehensive Plan for Land Use and Long-Range Planning in the Town of Stillwater.

Town Board

Shawn P. Connelly - Supervisor
 Supervisor Shawn P. Connelly is serving his first term as Town Supervisor of Stillwater. He is a mortgage broker, a past local restaurant owner and manager, as well as a cook in local restaurants for over 20 years.

Supervisor Connelly is already, and plans to continue, a positive relationship with Sen. Bruno’s office in Albany, as well as an active roll in County government, on the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors in Ballston Spa. He is working closely with The Luther’s Forest Technology Park and AMD. He is in collaborative effort with AMD to construct the Cold Springs RD Corridor, which will greatly improve road conditions in that portion of town. He will continue to work with the PNL Company as they work to improve and advance the new sewer hookup of The Saratoga Hills Park (formally Hillside), focusing on a more cost effective way to provide better water at a lower price to all residents of Stillwater. He is working with the Stillwater Emergency Management Team to be prepared in the case of any major emergency that may happen in Stillwater, like the Tornado of 1998. He will also continue to update the Comprehensive Plan and work with the Village of Stillwater and Stillwater School District looking for ways to get sidewalks put in.

Supervisor Connelly is a member of the Saratoga Lake Association, Stillwater Free Library, Stillwater / Mechanicville Elks and a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He also volunteers time to the Stillwater Area Community Center, and anticipates being at the Blockhouse this summer. He will work on an open government policy to better Stillwater in every way. He plans on working with the Budget Committee to lower taxes and keep spending down while not having any negative impact on services provided to the Town residents.

Art Baker - Deputy Supervisor
Councilman Baker has been involved in Stillwater Town Government for 20 years. He began his service to the Town of Stillwater in the capacity of Town Assessor. He held the post of Town Assessor for two years. 

While serving on the Town Board, Councilman Baker has been appointed as Chairman of the following committees: Landfill, Sewer, Highway and Election. Also, he has served as a member of the Water Committee.

Councilman Baker is an active volunteer in his community. He is a member and past officer of the Stillwater Legion Post 490, the Sons of the American Legion, past member of the Stillwater Rescue Squad, member of the Elder Care committee, and a home delivery volunteer for Meals on Wheels. 

He supervises the boys basketball program for fourth, fifth and sixth grade boys at the Stillwater Area Community Center. 

Councilman Baker and his wife, Kathy, are lifelong Stillwater residents and graduates of Stillwater Central School. They both are involved in activities related to the school. Their son, Michael, is a student at the Stillwater Central School.


Ken Petronis - Councilman
Councilman Petronis has been involved in Stillwater Town Government for 28 years. He began his service to the Town of Stillwater in the capacity of Town Justice. He held the post of Town Justice for fourteen and one-half years. 

While serving on the Town Board, Councilman Petronis has been appointed as Chairman of the following committees: Lighting, Public Safety, Historical and Youth and Recreation. Also, he has served as a member of the Refuse/Recycling and Land/Buildings Commitees. Councilman Petronis was a member of the Police Commission for five years. Currently, he serves as Police Commissioner. 

Councilman Petronis is the past President of the Saratoga County Magistrates Association and past President of the Riverside Fire Department.

Councilman Petronis is a United States Army Veteran, having served his country from 1955 to 1957.

Councilman Petronis is an active volunteer in his community. 

Councilman Petronis and his wife, Rose, are lifelong Stillwater residents. Rose Petronis is the former clerk for the Town of Stillwater. She held that position for seventeen years, retiring on December 31, 2002. 

Councilman Petronis and his wife, Rose, have seven children and thirteen grandchildren


 Lisa Bruno - Councilwoman
Councilwoman Bruno is serving her first 4 year term as a member of the Town Board. She has been an active community member and is committed to fiscal accountability and open government. Councilwoman Bruno is thankful for the opportunity to serve the people of Stillwater.

Councilwoman Bruno currently serves as Chairwoman of the Historical, Library and Landfill, Refuse & Recycling Committee and as a member of the Planning & Zoning, Promotions & Public Relations, Community Center and Lighting Committees. Councilwoman Bruno is also a member of the Police Commission.

The Councilwoman has been an Administrative Assistant for the New York State Senate Majority Counsel Office for more than 9 years.

Councilwoman Bruno and her husband Al Bruno are the proud parents of Cameron (8) and Brianna (2). Cameron attends Stillwater Elementary and is active in many local sports organizations.


Ginger Whitman - Councilwoman

 This is Councilwoman Whitman's first term as a member of the Town Board. She believes in a more open government, a conservative approach to spending and realistic budgets. As a lifelong resident, she has the time and is committed to the people of Stillwater.

Councilwoman Whitman serves on the Water, Highway, Historical committees and is chairman of Public Relations and laison to Emergency Management.

She is presently a member of the Foundation Board for Saratoga Bridges (serving the developed mentally disabled,) and been involved in the community and Town Government for many years.

The Councilwoman resides on Kellogg Rd is the widow of Don Whitman and has two sons, Edward and Timothy, and a granddaughter Conner.
